Description
Chemistry data from streambed porewater and surface water includes concentrations of dissolved organic carbon, carbon dioxide, methane, ammonium, nitrate, nitrite, nitrous oxide, and isotopic ratios. Measurements cover three distinct stream reaches with sandy and gravel substrates, collected during 2016-2017. The dataset was funded by the Natural Environment Research Council.
Use Cases
Analyze relationships between dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations and greenhouse gases like methane and nitrous oxide across different streambed reaches.
Model nitrogen cycling using nitrate, nitrite, and ammonium data alongside isotopic ratios δ15NNO3+NO2 and δ18ONO3+NO2.
Investigate dissolved oxygen and temperature effects on carbon dioxide and methane production in porewater at 10 cm and 20 cm depths.
Compare carbon and nitrogen chemistry between upstream sandy, mid-stream sandy, and downstream gravel substrates.
Strengths
Includes multiple greenhouse gas measurements (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide) alongside carbon and nitrogen chemistry.
Data collected at high spatial resolution with nitrogen chemistry measured at 2.5 cm intervals within the upper 15 cm of the streambed.
Samples cover three distinct geomorphic reaches within the same stream, allowing for comparative analysis.
Funded and supported by the Natural Environment Research Council with documented grant and award numbers.
Limitations
Temporal coverage is limited to a two-year period (2016-2017), restricting analysis of long-term trends.
Geographic scope is confined to a single agriculturally-impacted stream in the UK (Wood Brook), limiting generalizability.
Sample size and row count are unknown, which may affect statistical power for certain analyses.
