Description
Sentinel-1C Level 0 products consist of compressed and unprocessed instrument source packets from the Sentinel-1C satellite launched December 5, 2024. The products include noise, calibration, echo packets, orbit, and attitude information, compressed using Flexible Dynamic Block Adaptive Quantization (FDBAQ). The Alaska Satellite Facility Distributed Active Archive Center (ASF) creates ISO-compliant XML metadata from the associated Sentinel-1C SAFE format product.
Use Cases
Processing raw synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data based on Level 0 instrument source packets.
Analyzing satellite orbit and attitude information for geolocation and calibration.
Developing decompression and focusing software based on FDBAQ compression details.
Creating higher-level satellite imagery products based on the foundational Level 0 data.
Strengths
Provides the foundational Level 0 data from which all higher-level Sentinel-1 products are produced.
Includes dual polarization capability and short revisit times, as described for the Sentinel-1 constellation.
Metadata is ISO compliant, created by the Alaska Satellite Facility Distributed Active Archive Center (ASF).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data requires decompression and processing using focusing software to be usable.
Provenance
Source
Alaska Satellite Facility Distributed Active Archive Center (ASF)
Collection Method
Created from the associated Sentinel-1C SAFE format product.
Time Range
Data originates from the Sentinel-1C satellite launched December 5, 2024.
Geography
Global coverage from a sun-synchronous polar-orbiting satellite.
Data is compressed using FDBAQ and requires decompression and processing using focusing software.
