Description
A 2026 OpenStreetMap export contains water features across Serbia, including rivers, streams, canals, lakes, and ponds. The Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) compiled this data through a collaborative, volunteer-driven mapping process. Completeness of features varies by region, with urban areas typically better mapped than remote ones.
Use Cases
Model flood risk based on the mapped network of rivers and streams.
Conduct watershed analysis using the spatial distribution of water bodies.
Create an environmental context basemap for Serbia using the exported water features.
Strengths
Data is available in multiple geospatial formats including GEOPACKAGE, SHP, and GEOJSON.
Derived from a well-documented, open-source mapping project (OpenStreetMap) with specific tag keys provided.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
