Eighteen special education teachers, speech-language pathologists, and occupational therapists participated in focus groups exploring the instruction of spelling and writing for students using augmentative and alternative communication. Their qualitative analysis identified five key themes: the importance of writing for communication, supports, collaboration, instruction, and training.
