Description
Risk Prevention Plans (PPR) are the French state's key instrument for monitoring development in areas exposed to major environmental risks, established under the Act of 2 February 1995. The dataset contains graphic documents such as regulatory zoning plans, hazard maps, and presentation notes for PPRs, which are approved by prefects and implemented by departmental directorates. The data package was published by the Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières and last updated in April 2019.
Use Cases
Mapping areas under building restrictions based on regulatory zoning plans.
Analyzing spatial distribution of environmental hazards like floods or landslides based on attached hazard maps.
Monitoring land-use changes in municipalities affected by approved or prescribed Risk Prevention Plans.
Assessing regulatory requirements for construction and agricultural practices within plan perimeters.
Strengths
Data is tied to a specific legal framework (Act of 2 February 1995), providing a clear regulatory context.
Includes multiple document types (presentation notes, zoning plans, regulations) for comprehensive plan understanding.
Managed by a national geological and mining research organization (BRGM), suggesting authoritative sourcing.
