The COVADIS data standard provides specifications for storing geographical data from Risk Prevention Plans (RPPs). These plans, established by the Act of 2 February 1995, address eight main natural hazards and four technological risks. The standard aims for homogeneous storage of regulatory zoning, hazard, and issue maps for use by ministries responsible for agriculture and ecology.
Use Cases
- Delineating regulatory zones for construction restrictions based on hazard exposure levels.
- Mapping hazard intensity levels for floods, earthquakes, or forest fires as described in the plan documents.
- Identifying assets and infrastructure at risk (issues) to inform emergency preparedness strategies.
Strengths
- Based on a national legal framework established by the Act of 2 February 1995.
- Covers a defined set of eight natural and four technological hazards.
- Designed for standardized storage across different ministries and professions.
Limitations
- Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
- Last updated 2021-09-16 00:00:00; freshness should be verified.
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
