2017 noise maps for the Toulon Provence Mediterranean metropolitan area, developed under EU Directive 2002/49/EC. The dataset contains strategic noise maps (CBS) showing areas exposed to noise levels above 55 dB(A) Lden and 50 dB(A) Ln, created by the Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières. Maps are presented as isophone curves in 5 dB(A) steps.
Use Cases
- Assess population exposure to environmental noise based on Lden and Ln indicators.
- Model noise pollution evolution from road and rail infrastructure based on strategic noise maps.
- Support urban planning decisions using defined noise exposure zones (type A maps).
- Monitor compliance with EU noise directive requirements for large agglomerations.
Strengths
- Maps are defined by specific noise level thresholds (55 dB(A) Lden and 50 dB(A) Ln).
- Data is produced under a formal EU regulatory framework (Directive 2002/49/EC).
- Maps are revised at least every five years as mandated by the Environmental Code.
Limitations
- Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
- Last updated 2020-01-10 00:00:00; freshness should be verified.
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
