Description
Noise level zones describe noise exposure based on indicators or affected areas, used for strategic noise maps under Article R.572-5 of the Environmental Code. The table shows exposure characteristics for day, evening, and night populations along railways with at least 30,000 trains per year. The data is provided by the Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières and was last updated in April 2019.
Use Cases
Create strategic noise maps for railways based on noise exposure indicators.
Assess population exposure to rail noise during day, evening, and night periods.
Identify rail corridors where noise limit values are exceeded, based on traffic exceeding 30,000 trains per year.
Strengths
Data is structured for compliance with a specific legal framework (Article R.572-5 of the Environmental Code).
Focuses on railways with significant traffic volume (at least 30,000 trains per year).
Distinguishes between day, evening, and night noise exposure periods.
Limitations
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
