Skysat ESA Archive: High-Resolution Satellite Imagery Collection

The SkySat ESA archive collection consists of SkySat products requested by European Space Agency (ESA) supported projects over their areas of interest worldwide. The dataset includes two product types with a ground sampling distance at nadir up to 65 cm for panchromatic and up to 0.8m for multispectral imagery. It regularly grows as ESA collects new products.

Use Cases

• Land cover classification based on multispectral BGRN (Blue, Green, Red, Near-infrared) bands.
• Change detection and monitoring based on time-series orthorectified imagery.
• Creating base maps for urban planning based on pansharpened visual and multispectral ortho scenes.
• Atmospheric correction validation based on the Analytic SR (Surface Reflectance) product.

Strengths

• Provides multiple processing levels, including basic uncalibrated scenes and orthorectified, atmospherically corrected products.
• Collection is dynamic and regularly grows as new products are added by ESA.

Limitations

• Description metadata is limited; actual data quality, file formats, and size require manual inspection after download.
• Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
• As per ESA policy, very high-resolution imagery of conflict areas cannot be provided, limiting geographic completeness.
