Description
Main Roads Western Australia provides a spatial layer of Straight Line Kilometer (SLK) points for the state's road network. The data includes points every 100 meters along carriageways, with fields for SLK measures, coordinates, road names, and Streetview URLs. It is designed for location referencing and is updated by the Commissioner of Main Roads.
Use Cases
Calculate road segment lengths or analyze network density using SLKMin and SLKMax values.
Geocode road events or assets by joining external data on the unique RoadCway or RoadSLK identifier.
Visualize or analyze spatial patterns of road infrastructure using POINT_X and POINT_Y coordinates.
Create interactive maps linking field locations to street-level imagery via the StreetviewURL field.
Strengths
Data is provided by the authoritative road authority, Main Roads Western Australia.
Includes multiple machine-readable formats like GEOJSON, GPKG, and CSV for flexibility.
Points are generated at consistent 100-meter intervals (SLKGen) along defined routes.
Limitations
SLK measures may contain 'jumps' or gaps due to Points of Equation from network realignments.
Sample data and specific row/column counts are unavailable, limiting initial assessment of scale.
The disclaimer of warranties and limitation of liability in the CC BY 4.0 license shifts risk to the user.
