Data from 115 stations across the USSR collected in 1981 by the Western Siberian Computer Centre. The dataset contains hydrometeorological observations of soil temperature at various depths. It is currently stored on magnetic tape (800 bit/inch) and is held by the Russian State Fund of data.
Use Cases
- Analyze historical soil temperature trends based on station observations
- Model subsurface thermal dynamics based on depth-specific measurements
- Study regional climate variability based on hydrometeorological data
Strengths
- Data from 115 stations provides a broad spatial sample
- Created in 1981, offering a specific historical snapshot
Limitations
- Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download
- Last updated 1975-12-31 23:59:59.999000; freshness should be verified
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
