A literature review and data summary on soil organic carbon accumulation rates following agricultural land conversion to natural vegetation. The dataset, compiled by W. M. Post of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, provides approximate sequestration rates and discusses factors influencing carbon storage in soil. Average accumulation rates are reported as 33.8 g C m–2 y–1 for forest establishment and 33.2 g C m–2 y–1 for grassland establishment.
