Description
Soil chemistry data includes carbon, nitrogen, pH, bulk density, and cation exchange capacity measurements. The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, collected 907 soil samples from November 2021 to November 2024. It provides baseline conditions for research on soil carbon dynamics and fungal communities.
Use Cases
Model soil carbon content from bulk density, organic matter, and depth band data.
Analyze relationships between soil pH, calcium, magnesium, and cation exchange capacity.
Investigate spatial and temporal trends in nitrogen and phosphorus levels across 10 project campaigns.
Predict soil conductivity using sodium, potassium, and sulphate measurements.
Strengths
907 soil samples provide a substantial observational record.
Data spans a 3-year period from 2021 to 2024.
Measures 15+ chemical and physical variables per sample.
Limitations
Limited to a single geographic location (Wakehurst, UK).
Sample size of 907 may be insufficient for highly granular spatiotemporal models.
Provenance
Source
Royal Botanic Gardens (RBG), Kew, via the Environmental Information Data Centre.
Collection Method
Field collection of soil samples from defined locations and depth bands.
Time Range
November 2021 to November 2024
Freshness
Data collection ended in November 2024.
Geography
Wakehurst Ecosystem Observatory, UK
