Description
1965 soil survey data from Moor House, Cumbria, UK, collected by Mike Hornung for his PhD research. The dataset contains information on soil horizons, chemical analyses, and soil mineralogy. It is hosted by the Environmental Information Data Centre.
Use Cases
Analyze relationships between soil horizon descriptions and chemical analyses to model soil formation processes.
Classify soil types using mineralogy and chemical analysis data from the survey.
Establish baseline soil chemistry conditions from 1965 for long-term environmental monitoring studies.
Strengths
Data originates from a structured scientific PhD survey conducted by a named researcher.
Covers multiple soil data domains: horizons, chemistry, and mineralogy.
Persistent identifier (DOI) provides reliable citation and access.
Limitations
Data is from a single year (1965), limiting analysis of temporal trends.
Sample size and geographic scope are confined to the Moor House area.
Unknown row count and column structure hinder immediate assessment of analytical scope.
