Soil temperature and moisture measurements collected in 1988 from Alatna and Towle Valley in the Convoy Range, near Arena Valley and the Walcott Bay area. The data was gathered by SCIOPS to help establish the definition and classification of cold aridisols. Information from as many other locations as possible was also collected for this purpose.
Use Cases
- Classifying cold aridisols based on soil temperature measurements
- Analyzing soil moisture patterns in Antarctic valleys
- Comparing soil conditions across multiple locations in the Convoy Range
- Establishing baseline environmental data for polar soil research
Strengths
- Data collected from multiple specific locations (Alatna and Towle Valley)
- Focus on a specific soil classification problem (cold aridisols)
- Organization (SCIOPS) is explicitly named
Limitations
- Last updated 1988-01-25 23:59:59.999000; freshness should be verified
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
