Soil Temperature measurements were taken at Networked Info-mechanical Systems (NIMS) grid plots in Atqasuk, Alaska throughout the summer of 2012. The SEL lab's Taylor Temperature Probe was used to take measurements at about a 10 cm depth between the matted trail and each white board at every meter. The dataset was last updated on August 18, 2012.
Use Cases
- Modeling soil thermal regimes in Arctic tundra based on the described measurement protocol
- Analyzing seasonal soil temperature variation based on the summer 2012 time range
- Studying microclimate effects on soil based on the described grid plot and meter-level sampling
Strengths
- Measurements were taken at a consistent 10 cm depth, providing standardized data
- Data collection occurred throughout the summer of 2012, offering seasonal coverage
- Sampling was performed at every meter within the described grid plots
Limitations
- Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download
- Last updated 2012-08-18 23:59:59.999000; freshness should be verified
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
