Description
Hourly averaged data from the Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory-B satellite, processed by NASA's NSSDC COHOWeb system. The data includes magnetic field averages, solar wind proton and ion densities, speeds, velocity vectors, temperatures, and energetic particle fluxes from multiple onboard instruments. The dataset was last updated on March 13, 2026.
Use Cases
Modeling solar wind propagation based on proton and ion density and speed measurements.
Analyzing magnetic field perturbations associated with coronal mass ejections based on fluxgate magnetometer data.
Studying energetic particle events in the heliosphere based on fluxes from the Low Energy Telescope, High Energy Telescope, and Suprathermal Ion Telescope.
Strengths
Data originates from NASA's STEREO-B satellite, a dedicated solar observation mission.
Hourly averages are derived from high-resolution 10-minute data, suggesting a consistent temporal resolution.
Includes measurements from multiple specialized instruments (IMPACT, PLASTIC, SEP suite) for a multi-faceted view.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
File formats include BIN and HTML, which may require specialized tools for analysis.
Provenance
Source
National Aeronautics and Space Administration
Collection Method
Data were made by using high resolution data from CDAWeb and processed into hourly averages at GSFC/SPDF.
