Description
2022-23 mapping of marine landforms, substrate types, and ecosystems for the Solitary Islands Marine Park. The dataset was created using multibeam echosounder, towed-video, and sediment surveys, funded by Parks Australia and the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. It includes synthesised seabed classifications and contextual datasets for bathymetry sources, video substrate points, and sediment metadata.
Use Cases
Classifying seabed landforms based on bathymetry-derived geomorphic features.
Mapping the extent of rocky reefs and characterizing sessile invertebrate diversity.
Ground-truthing multibeam echosounder data using sediment sampling and towed-video surveys.
Analyzing the distribution of unconsolidated seabed types across depth intervals.
Strengths
Integrates data from multiple survey methods: multibeam echosounder, towed-video, and sediment grabs.
Classifies features according to established schemes like Seamap Australia and NESP Natural Values.
Provides four distinct contextual datasets including a synthesised seabed classification.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Freshness should be verified as the last metadata update was 2026-06-04.
