Description
2020 reference year data for livestock density in Somalia, provided by the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Center (ICPAC). The dataset contains geospatial layers for six species—buffalo, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and chickens—at a resolution of approximately 10 km at the equator. It represents the fourth version of the Global Livestock of the World (GLW) data, featuring updated subnational distribution data and more detailed metadata.
Use Cases
Modeling livestock disease risk based on species density maps.
Assessing food security and agricultural resource allocation based on animal population distribution.
Conducting environmental impact studies based on estimated livestock biomass.
Planning veterinary service delivery based on subnational livestock distribution.
Strengths
Covers six key livestock species: buffalo, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and chickens.
Provides data at a global extent with a resolution of approximately 10 km at the equator.
Represents the fourth version (GLW 4) with updated and harmonized subnational data.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
