Description
Five GeoTIFF files, including one at 64m and four at 128m resolution, represent bathymetric data from the South-west Corner and Perth Canyon Marine Parks. The Minderoo-UWA Deep-Sea Research Centre acquired the data aboard the MV Pangaea Ocean Explorer from March 24 to April 5, 2022, using a Kongsberg EM304 multibeam sonar. Dr. Todd Bond led the survey, and Dr. Yakup Niyazi processed the data, which was published with permission from Geoscience Australia.
Use Cases
Modeling seafloor terrain and slope based on the 64m and 128m resolution bathymetric grids.
Analyzing submarine canyon morphology in the Perth Canyon based on the processed multibeam sonar data.
Creating base maps for marine habitat studies within the South-west Corner and Perth Canyon Marine Parks.
Conducting geological studies of the continental shelf and slope using the high-resolution depth data.
Strengths
Data was collected during a dedicated 13-day research voyage in March-April 2022.
Processed using QPS Qimera v.2.5 software, suggesting a standardized workflow.
Includes both 64-meter and 128-meter resolution products, offering flexibility for analysis at different scales.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
The dataset is explicitly not to be used for navigational purposes, limiting its application scope.
