Description
The ORNL DAAC Spatial Data Access Tool (SDAT) is a suite of web applications enabling visualization and download of spatial data in user-selected extents, formats, and projections. It incorporates Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standard web services, including Web Coverage Service (WCS), Web Map Service (WMS), and Web Feature Service (WFS). The tool provides access to ORNL DAAC-archived datasets and other relevant data products covering agriculture, atmosphere, biosphere, climate indicators, human dimensions, land surface, oceans, and the terrestrial hydrosphere.
Use Cases
Visualizing regional climate indicators using the integrated Web Map Service (WMS).
Downloading model output data for a specific watershed via the Web Coverage Service (WCS).
Extracting feature-level data on agricultural land use through the Web Feature Service (WFS).
Integrating biosphere and atmospheric data layers for ecological dynamics research.
Strengths
Provides access to a wide range of data types, including agriculture, atmosphere, biosphere, climate indicators, human dimensions, land surface, oceans, and terrestrial hydrosphere.
Supports interoperability through the use of Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standard web services (WCS, WMS, WFS).
Allows user-defined spatial and temporal extents, file formats, and map projections for data access.
Limitations
Metadata for row count, file size, and specific column names is unavailable across all sources.
The dataset's license is ambiguously listed as 'other-license-specified' without explicit details.
Provenance
Source
ORNL DAAC (Oak Ridge National Laboratory Distributed Active Archive Center)
Collection Method
Archived and served via a web-based suite of applications (SDAT).
Freshness
2026-04-09 21:54:42.598315
Geography
User-selected spatial extents; global coverage is likely based on described data domains.
License is listed as 'other-license-specified'; users should verify specific terms before use. The tool provides access to multiple datasets, not a single static dataset.
