Description
Over three thousand binary systems are represented in this dynamic catalog of spectroscopic orbits, which continues a 35-year series of compilations. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) HEASARC maintains this version, updated regularly from the CDS source. The reference publication reflected the catalog's status as of May 1, 2004, when it contained 2694 orbits for 2386 systems.
Use Cases
Modeling stellar masses and orbital dynamics based on spectroscopic orbit data
Analyzing binary star system evolution based on cataloged orbital parameters
Validating theoretical astrophysical models against observed spectroscopic orbits
Strengths
Contains orbits for over three thousand binary systems
Regularly updated, with this version synchronized within a week of CDS updates
Continues a 35-year series of compilations, providing historical continuity
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Provenance
Source
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) HEASARC, based on CDS Catalog B/sb9
