Description
EGS survey vessel RV Bold Explorer collected bathymetry, seabed feature, and shallow geology data for the SSCN Segment 2-B cable route within the Eastern Recherche Marine Park. The survey team embarked in Fremantle, Australia on April 17, 2024, with equipment calibration and offshore operations conducted from April 19-20, 2024. Geoscience Australia Data published this dataset, which is not intended for navigational purposes.
Use Cases
Plan subsea cable route placement based on bathymetry and seabed feature data.
Analyze shallow geology for cable burial feasibility based on survey findings.
Assess marine park seabed morphology for environmental impact studies.
Validate acoustic survey equipment calibration procedures based on described methods.
Strengths
Data collection includes specific calibration dates (April 17-20, 2024) and vessel departure details.
Survey scope is clearly defined, covering bathymetry, seabed features, and shallow geology.
Dataset is sourced from a recognized government organization, Geoscience Australia Data.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and data volume are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the specific marine park survey area.
