Description
Survey data collected onboard the RV Bold Explorer from Fremantle Port on April 17th, 2024. The dataset covers bathymetry, seabed features, and shallow geology along a proposed subsea cable route within the Great Australian Bight Marine Park. It was acquired by EGS for the SUBCO Subsea Cable Network (SSCN) project.
Use Cases
Model seabed topography for cable route planning based on bathymetry data
Identify potential seabed hazards based on described seabed features
Analyze shallow geology for environmental impact assessments
Validate multibeam echosounder (MBES) calibration procedures described in the survey
Strengths
Data collection includes calibration and verification of DGPS and gyros on April 17-18, 2024
Survey covers specific features: bathymetry, seabed features, and shallow geology
Dataset is part of a broader geotechnical sampling programme mentioned in the description
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
The dataset is not to be used for navigational purposes, limiting one potential application
