Description
The Great Australian Bight Marine Park is the focus of this bathymetric survey dataset. It was acquired by EGS onboard the RV Bold Explorer in April 2024 for the SUBCO Subsea Cable Network (SSCN) cable route survey. The dataset includes bathymetry, seabed features, and shallow geology data, but is not intended for navigational purposes.
Use Cases
Modeling seabed topography for subsea cable route planning based on bathymetry data.
Identifying potential seabed hazards for marine infrastructure based on seabed feature data.
Analyzing shallow geology for environmental impact assessments within the marine park.
Strengths
Survey equipment underwent calibration and verification on specific dates (17th-20th April 2024).
Data collection was conducted by a named survey vessel (RV Bold Explorer) for a specific project (SSCN Segment 2-B).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Provenance
Source
Australian Ocean Data Network
Collection Method
Acquired via multibeam echosounder (MBES) and other sensors during a dedicated marine survey.
Time Range
Survey conducted in April 2024.
