Description
A 2024 marine survey collected bathymetry, seabed feature, and shallow geology data along a proposed subsea cable route within the South-west Corner Marine Park. The survey was conducted by EGS onboard the RV Bold Explorer, with equipment calibration performed in Fremantle Port between April 17-20, 2024. This dataset is part of the SUBCO Subsea Cable Network (SSCN) cable route survey and is not for navigational use.
Use Cases
Modeling seabed topography for cable route planning based on the bathymetry survey.
Identifying potential seabed hazards for infrastructure projects based on the investigation of seabed features.
Analyzing shallow subsurface geology for environmental or geotechnical assessments mentioned in the description.
Strengths
Survey conducted with calibrated multibeam echosounder (MBES) and USBL systems, with specific calibration dates provided.
Dataset is confined to a specific, named geographic area: the South-west Corner Marine Park.
Detailed provenance includes specific vessel (RV Bold Explorer), survey company (EGS), and embarkation date (April 17, 2024).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and spatial resolution are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic and temporal bias inherent to the single 2024 survey.
Provenance
Source
Australian Ocean Data Network, collected by EGS (survey company).
Collection Method
Acquired via hull-mounted and towed sensors from the survey vessel RV Bold Explorer.
Time Range
Survey conducted in April 2024.
