Description
A bathymetry dataset from a survey conducted onboard the RV Bold Explorer from 17th to 20th April 2024. The survey investigated bathymetry, seabed features, and shallow geology along a proposed subsea cable route within the South-west Corner Marine Park near Fremantle, Australia. The dataset is provided by Geoscience Australia Data and is not for navigational purposes.
Use Cases
Modeling seabed topography based on multibeam echosounder (MBES) data mentioned in the description
Identifying potential seabed hazards for infrastructure projects based on the survey of seabed features and shallow geology
Analyzing bathymetric variation within a marine protected area based on the confined survey area
Calibrating or validating other marine geospatial datasets based on the described calibration procedures for positioning and sensor systems
Strengths
Describes a specific, time-bound survey conducted from 17th to 20th April 2024
Details a multi-faceted survey covering bathymetry, seabed features, and shallow geology
Documents specific calibration procedures for DGPS, gyros, and multibeam echosounders
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Data may reflect geographic and temporal bias inherent to the single survey location and period
