Description
A 2024 marine survey collected bathymetry, seabed feature, and shallow geology data along a proposed subsea cable route within the Western Eyre Marine Park. The survey was conducted by EGS onboard the RV Bold Explorer, with equipment calibration performed in Fremantle Port between April 17-20, 2024. This dataset is part of the Australian Ocean Data Network and is explicitly not intended for navigational purposes.
Use Cases
Modeling seabed topography for cable route planning based on bathymetry data.
Identifying potential seabed hazards for infrastructure projects based on seabed feature investigation.
Analyzing shallow subsurface geology for environmental impact assessments.
Calibrating or validating regional bathymetric models with high-resolution survey data.
Strengths
Data collection followed a documented calibration protocol for positioning and multibeam echosounder systems on April 19-20, 2024.
Survey scope includes multiple data layers: bathymetry, seabed features, and shallow geology.
Specific temporal and geographic context is provided: Western Eyre Marine Park in April 2024.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
The dataset is provided as a ZIP file with no sample data or specified internal formats.
