Description
Bathymetry and seabed feature data were collected for a subsea cable route survey within the Apollo Marine Park. The survey was conducted by EGS Survey Pty Ltd onboard the RV Bold Explorer between February 24 and March 5, 2024. The data was intended to identify a secure cable route by assessing seafloor slopes, conditions, and obstacles.
Use Cases
Modeling seafloor topography for cable route planning based on bathymetric survey data.
Identifying potential seabed obstacles like rock outcrops or existing infrastructure mentioned in the survey purpose.
Assessing slope stability for cable burial operations based on the >6° slope criterion.
Supporting environmental impact assessments within a designated marine park area.
Strengths
Data has a precise temporal coverage from February 24 to March 5, 2024.
Survey was conducted for a specific engineering purpose with defined criteria like slope analysis.
Spatial coverage is confined to the Apollo Marine Park, providing geographic specificity.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
The dataset is explicitly not to be used for navigational purposes, restricting its application.
