Description
EGS collected this bathymetric dataset for the SUBCO Subsea Cable Network (SSCN) cable route survey using the RV Bold Explorer. The survey, conducted in April 2024, investigated bathymetry, seabed features, and shallow geology within the Murray Marine Park off Western Australia. The dataset is hosted by the Australian Ocean Data Network and is not for navigational use.
Use Cases
Modeling seabed terrain for subsea cable route planning based on the described bathymetric survey.
Analyzing seabed features and shallow geology for marine park management and conservation.
Calibrating marine acoustic equipment using the documented calibration procedures for multibeam echosounders.
Conducting temporal analysis of seafloor changes if compared with future surveys in the same area.
Strengths
Survey methodology is documented, including specific calibration dates (April 19-20, 2024) and vessel details.
Data is confined to a specific, named geographic area: the Murray Marine Park.
The dataset is part of a broader, professionally executed survey that included a subsequent geotechnical sampling programme.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and data volume are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
The description metadata is limited; actual data quality and completeness require manual inspection after download.
Provenance
Source
Australian Ocean Data Network
Collection Method
Acquired via a marine survey using multibeam echosounders (MBES) from the vessel RV Bold Explorer.
Time Range
Survey conducted in April 2024.
