Description
EGS survey data collected aboard the RV Bold Explorer in April 2024 for the SUBCO Subsea Cable Network (SSCN) project. This dataset captures bathymetry, seabed features, and shallow geology along a proposed cable route within the Nelson Marine Park, Australia. The Australian Ocean Data Network hosts the data, which is explicitly not intended for navigational purposes.
Use Cases
Modeling seabed topography for subsea cable route planning based on bathymetry data.
Analyzing seabed composition and geological features for environmental impact assessments.
Creating high-resolution bathymetric maps of a marine park based on multibeam echosounder surveys.
Strengths
Data collection followed a documented calibration protocol for positioning and multibeam systems on April 17-20, 2024.
Survey scope includes multiple data types: bathymetry, seabed features, shallow geology, and subsequent geotechnical sampling.
Geographic coverage is precisely confined to the Nelson Marine Park.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
