Description
Between 7 March 2024 and 4 April 2024, a hydrographic survey was conducted within the Beagle Marine Park to map the seafloor for the SUBCO Subsea Cable Network (SSCN) Segment 2-E. The data, collected by EGS Survey Pty Ltd from the RV Bold Explorer, was designed to identify a secure cable route by locating obstacles and assessing seabed conditions for ploughing and burial. This dataset supports the engineering, construction, and maintenance planning for a major telecommunications cable trunk route between Perth and Sydney.
Use Cases
Identifying seabed obstacles like rock outcrops and shipwrecks for cable route planning.
Assessing seafloor slopes to ensure they are within safe burial limits (<6°).
Planning cable ploughing and burial operations based on seabed composition data.
Supporting environmental impact assessments within a designated Marine Park.
Strengths
Data collected during a specific, recent survey period from 7 March to 4 April 2024.
Survey conducted by a named professional contractor (EGS Survey Pty Ltd) using a specified vessel (RV Bold Explorer).
Dataset is part of a major national infrastructure project (SUBCO Subsea Cable Network).
Limitations
Key metadata such as column names, row count, file size, and license are listed as unknown or None across all sources.
