Description
The IMPACT Suprathermal Ion Telescope (SIT) Level 1 dataset provides 1-minute resolution ion flux measurements for multiple species. It includes fluxes for H, 3He, 4He, C, O, NeS, Fe, and ultra-heavy ions across specific energy bands, typically spanning ~0.04-9 MeV/nucleon, along with associated uncertainties. The data were produced by NASA's STEREO-B mission.
Use Cases
Analyzing suprathermal ion composition and abundance based on multi-species flux measurements
Studying the temporal evolution of particle events during CMEs based on 1-minute resolution data
Modeling ion energy spectra and distributions based on the specified energy band ranges
Investigating counting statistics and measurement uncertainties for space physics data validation
Strengths
Provides ion flux data for 8 distinct species or groups (H, 3He, 4He, C, O, NeS, Fe, UH)
Includes associated uncertainties due to counting statistics for each measurement
Data resolution is 1-minute, which likely allows for detailed temporal analysis
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Provenance
Source
National Aeronautics and Space Administration
Collection Method
In-situ measurements from the STEREO-B IMPACT Suprathermal Ion Telescope (SIT) instrument.
