Description
Government of Yukon provides stratigraphic succession and U-Pb geochronology data from the Teslin suture zone in south-central Yukon. The dataset describes lithologic units including metagraywacke, quartzite, marble, and mafic metavolcanics, and includes a Devono-Mississippian U-Pb zircon age of 353 +1.3/-1.4 Ma from a granodiorite intrusion. This data establishes a minimum depositional age for the suture zone protoliths and suggests a genetic link to other northern Cordillera terranes.
Use Cases
Modeling regional tectonic evolution based on lithologic succession and age constraints
Correlating stratigraphic units across the Cordillera based on described lithologies
Analyzing metamorphic and deformation history based on greenschist facies metamorphism and shear direction
Interpreting depositional environments based on described sedimentary protoliths like metagraywacke and argillite
Strengths
Includes a precise U-Pb zircon age measurement of 353 +1.3/-1.4 Ma
Describes a specific lithologic succession with multiple rock types
Provides a clear geographic focus on the Teslin suture zone in south-central Yukon
Limitations
Row count and column-level documentation are unknown
Data is presented in HTML and PDF formats, which may require extraction for analysis
The dataset's scale and completeness for broader modeling are unclear
