Description
1,245 X-ray sources, including 32 extended-source candidates, were detected across a 1.14 square-degree area of the sky. The catalog was created by NASA HEASARC in November 2008 from observations in the 0.2-10 keV band, with sensitivity limits ranging from 6e-16 to 5e-15 ergs cm^-2 s^-1. It bridges the flux gap between Chandra deep surveys and brighter surveys, and its analysis includes clustering signals and spatial variation in source density.
Use Cases
Analyze the spatial clustering of X-ray sources based on the autocorrelation function results mentioned in the description.
Study the log N-log S relation and its spatial variation across the survey's seven pointings.
Identify and characterize extended-source candidates within the catalog.
Compare source populations and flux distributions with other X-ray surveys like Chandra.
Investigate the correlation length of sources in different energy bands (0.5-2 keV vs. 2-10 keV).
Strengths
Contains 1,245 distinct X-ray sources detected with a high confidence level (>=7 detection likelihood, 99.91%).
Covers a continuous area of 1.14 square degrees with observations in four specific energy bands (0.5-2, 0.5-4.5, 2-10, 4.5-10 keV).
Includes 32 extended-source candidates, allowing for analysis of different source types.
Provides specific sensitivity limits for each energy band and a measured correlation length for clustering in the 0.5-2 keV band.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
