Description
A detailed summary of the Southwest Bairnsdale No. 1 exploratory well drilled in the Gippsland Basin, Victoria. The well was drilled to a depth of 3926 feet by Reading and Bates (Australia) Pty Ltd for Woodside (Lakes Entrance) Oil Company N.L. and Arco Limited between January 8 and February 14, 1963. It includes results from coring, logging, and a formation test, concluding with the well being plugged and abandoned as a dry hole.
Use Cases
Analyze stratigraphic sequences based on described Tertiary, Lower Carboniferous-Upper Devonian, and pre-Upper Devonian granite layers
Assess hydrocarbon potential based on reported porosity, permeability tests, and the absence of shows
Study subsidized exploration projects under the Petroleum Search Subsidy Act 1959-1961
Model subsurface geology using the well's location, depth, and encountered sediment types
Strengths
Specific drilling dates (January 8 to February 14, 1963) and total depth (3926 feet) are provided
Description includes clear geological objectives and detailed results of coring, logging, and a formation test
Well location is precisely described as about 15 miles west-south-west of Bairnsdale
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Data may reflect geographic and temporal bias inherent to a single 1963 well report
