Description
A study by Eva-Molly Petitto Dunbar, last updated in May 2026, examines the feasibility and effectiveness of specialized programming for athletes in higher levels of eating disorder care. It includes data from 182 adolescent and adult patients who identified as athletes and attended at least four athlete-focused therapy groups. Outcomes tracked include dysfunctional exercise, eating disorder symptoms, impairment, depression, and anxiety across admission, mid-treatment, discharge, and 6- and 12-month follow-ups.
Use Cases
Evaluating the effectiveness of athlete-focused therapy groups based on changes in dysfunctional exercise symptoms (EPSI)
Analyzing longitudinal trends in eating disorder psychopathology based on EDE-Q scores across five time points
Assessing the relationship between clinical impairment (CIA) and mood symptoms (PHQ-9, STAI) in an athlete patient population
Modeling treatment response trajectories for specialized higher-level care programs
Strengths
Includes longitudinal data from 182 patients across five assessment time points
