Description
1990 to 2021 data on the incidence, prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) for malaria and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) from the Global Burden of Disease 2021 study. The dataset, authored by Huan Huang and shared on figshare, includes age-standardized rates and projections for the next 15 years based on a vector autoregression model.
Use Cases
Analyzing global and regional time trends in malaria and NTD burden based on annual incidence and mortality rates from 1990 to 2021.
Modeling the influence of socio-demographic and environmental risk factors on disease burden based on the Socio-Demographic Index (SDI), unsafe water, and sanitation variables.
Projecting future disease burden for malaria and NTDs over a 15-year horizon based on the vector autoregression (VAR) model results.
Strengths
Data spans 32 years (1990-2021) and includes projections for the next 15 years.
Derived from the authoritative Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021 study.
Includes multiple burden metrics: incidence, prevalence, mortality, DALYs, and age-standardized rates.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
The primary data file is a 2.7 MB DOCX document, which may require extraction and structuring of tabular data.
