Description
Metabolomic and viability data from a bioreactor study on bovine intervertebral discs cultured for 1 week under varying glucose concentrations (25 mM, 11 mM, 5.5 mM) and physiological loading. The dataset includes measurements of cell viability in the annulus fibrosus and nucleus pulposus, glycosaminoglycan release, and expression of anabolic, catabolic, apoptotic, and glucose transporter markers. The study also analyzed sex-dependent responses in the bovine cohort.
Use Cases
Model cell viability in the annulus fibrosus and nucleus pulposus as a function of glucose concentration using the provided viability percentages.
Analyze sex-dependent differences in apoptotic marker expression within the nucleus pulposus for low glucose groups.
Correlate changes in metabolite levels related to β-oxidation and antioxidant protection with glucose concentration and culture duration from day 1 to day 7.
Investigate the relationship between glycosaminoglycan release and applied physiological loading conditions (0.02–0.20 MPa, 0.2 Hz).
Strengths
Includes precise quantitative measurements, such as cell viability percentages ranging from 7.5% to 80% across different disc regions and glucose levels.
Data captures sex-dependent responses for key markers like glucose transporters and apoptotic factors within the bovine cohort.
Covers three distinct glucose concentrations (25 mM, 11 mM, 5.5 mM) under controlled physiological loading for 1 week.
Limitations
Dataset is small (4.2 MB), likely containing summary experimental results rather than extensive raw or tabular data.
Sample is from a specific bovine model, limiting direct generalizability to human intervertebral disc physiology.
Data structure and specific column names are unknown, as the primary data is embedded within a DOCX document.
