Description
384 one-day-old broiler chicks were used in a study investigating the effects of dietary L-citrulline supplementation on physiological responses to acute heat and immune stress. The dataset likely contains measurements of body temperature, oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide expiration, heat production, and mRNA expression of thermosensing channels. The data was uploaded by Lan Li to figshare under a CC-BY-4.0 license and last updated on April 21, 2026.
Use Cases
Modeling the relationship between dietary L-citrulline and core body temperature based on measurements from heat-stressed and LPS-challenged broilers.
Analyzing metabolic rate changes via oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide expiration data under different stress conditions.
Investigating gene expression patterns for thermosensing TRP ion channels (e.g., TRPV1, TRPV2, TRPA1) in response to environmental and immune stressors.
Strengths
Data originates from a controlled experiment with 384 broiler chicks divided into 4 groups with 8 replicates.
Includes physiological measurements such as body temperature, O2 consumption, CO2 expiration, and heat production under defined acute and chronic stress protocols.
Associated with a detailed methodological description covering dietary treatments, stress induction (heat and LPS), and monitoring periods.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
The primary data file is a 1.0 MB DOCX document, which may require extraction or conversion for analysis.

Collection Method
Experimental data from a study where broiler chickens were subjected to controlled heat stress (HT) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) immune challenges, with physiological parameters monitored in a respiratory chamber.
