Description
109 Danish coastal waterbodies were monitored from 1980 to 2023 for indicators of eutrophication. The dataset includes trends for dissolved inorganic nitrogen, dissolved inorganic phosphorus, chlorophyll a, light penetration depth, eelgrass main depth limit, a benthic fauna index, and bottom water oxygen concentration. It was authored by Marie Neel Jørgensen and shared under a CC-BY-4.0 license.
Use Cases
Analyzing long-term trends in nutrient concentrations based on winter DIN and DIP data
Modeling the relationship between nutrient levels and biological indicators like chlorophyll a and eelgrass depth
Assessing the spatial and temporal recovery status of coastal ecosystems based on multiple eutrophication indicators
Evaluating the effectiveness of national nutrient reduction plans on coastal water quality
Strengths
Covers a 43-year time series from 1980 to 2023
Includes data from 109 distinct coastal waterbodies
Tracks seven key indicators of eutrophication as described in the study
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Data freshness should be verified as the last update is listed as 2026-05-19
