Description
19,187 dog and cat owners across 10 countries were surveyed to identify strata of pet owners based on their bond with their animal. The data-driven clustering approach identified two distinct owner groups for dogs and three for cats, characterized by differences in emotional connection, spending, and health impact. This dataset, authored by Danny Maupin and shared under a CC-BY-4.0 license, was last updated on May 12, 2026.
Use Cases
Cluster analysis of pet owner segments based on survey responses about bond strength and care.
Comparative studies between dog and cat owner demographics and behaviors across different countries.
Modeling the correlation between reported human-animal bond intensity and willingness to spend on veterinary care.
Investigating gender differences in reported emotional connections with companion animals.
Strengths
Large sample size of 19,187 pet owners.
International scope covering 10 countries.
Analysis uses a model-based clustering approach validated with Bayesian Information Criterion.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
The dataset is stored as a 38.4 KB DOCX file, which suggests it may contain summary results rather than raw survey data.
Row count for the underlying raw data is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
