Description
241 species were caught during a 2010 marine survey across 150 stations in the Irish Sea and Bristol Channel. The survey collected station, catch, length, and biological data for selected species, alongside benthic, litter, water temperature, salinity, and acoustic data. It was undertaken by Cefas aboard the RV Endeavour to create abundance indices for EU regulations and ICES research.
Use Cases
Modeling fish stock abundance indices based on catch-per-unit-effort data.
Analyzing species composition and biodiversity across 150 survey stations.
Correlating fish distributions with concurrent water temperature and salinity measurements.
Studying benthic community data collected alongside the trawl survey.
Strengths
Data covers 241 different species, indicating broad taxonomic coverage.
Survey operations were conducted at 150 stations, providing spatial breadth.
Includes multiple data types: biological catch, length, and physical oceanographic measurements.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale modeling.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
