Description
212 different species were caught during this 2011 survey of the Irish Sea and Bristol Channel. The survey was conducted by Cefas aboard the R/V Endeavour, collecting station, catch, length, and biological data from 152 stations using 4m beam trawls. Data supports EU fisheries regulations and ICES research, with additional aims to collect benthic, litter, temperature, salinity, and acoustic data.
Use Cases
Calculate species abundance indices based on catch data from 152 stations.
Model relationships between fish populations and environmental variables like water temperature and salinity.
Analyze species composition and biodiversity across the Irish Sea and Bristol Channel survey area.
Support stock assessments and fisheries management decisions under EU data regulations.
Strengths
Survey operations were undertaken on 152 stations, providing spatial coverage.
212 different species were caught on this survey, indicating taxonomic breadth.
Data collection includes biological, environmental, and acoustic data, suggesting a multi-faceted approach.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect temporal bias inherent to the single survey period in 2011.
