Description
A 19-day survey conducted between 07/09/1990 and 25/09/1990 on the RV Corystes. The dataset contains station, catch, length, and biological data from 172 stations in the Irish Sea and Bristol Channel, where 82 species were caught. It was undertaken by Cefas to create abundance indices for EU regulations and ICES research, also collecting benthic, litter, temperature, salinity, and acoustic data.
Use Cases
Calculate fish abundance indices based on catch data from 172 stations.
Analyze species composition and biodiversity from records of 82 different species.
Study benthic community structure based on data collected with oyster and scallop dredges.
Correlate fish populations with environmental factors like water temperature and salinity.
Support stock assessment and management advice under EU data regulations.
Strengths
Survey operations were undertaken on 172 stations, providing spatially detailed sampling.
Records include data for 82 different species caught, indicating broad taxonomic coverage.
Data collection includes multiple gear types (beam trawl, otter trawl, dredges) and auxiliary environmental measurements.
Clear temporal scope from 07/09/1990 to 25/09/1990.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data is from a single survey in 1990; temporal coverage is limited.
