Description
142 stations were sampled during a survey from August 26 to September 19, 1994 aboard the RV Corystes. The survey, undertaken by Cefas, recorded catch, length, and biological data for 81 different species in the Irish Sea and Bristol Channel using 4m beam trawls. Data were collected to support EU regulations and ICES research, with additional aims to gather benthic, litter, water quality, and acoustic data.
Use Cases
Calculate species abundance indices based on catch data from 142 stations.
Analyze species length distributions for biological studies.
Model benthic community composition based on trawl survey data.
Correlate water temperature and salinity data with species presence.
Assess marine litter prevalence in the Irish Sea and Bristol Channel.
Strengths
Survey operations were undertaken on 142 stations, providing a structured sampling grid.
81 different species were caught, indicating a multi-species ecological record.
Specific survey dates (26/08/1994 to 19/09/1994) and vessel (Corystes) are documented.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale modeling.
