Description
113 stations were sampled during a 2003 survey of the Irish Sea and Bristol Channel, catching 82 species. The survey collected station, catch, length, and biological data using research vessels and 4m beam trawls. Data was primarily used to create abundance indices for EU regulations and ICES research programs.
Use Cases
Calculate species abundance indices based on catch and length data.
Study benthic community composition based on the benthic sampling gear used.
Analyze correlations between environmental factors like water temperature and species distribution.
Support EU fisheries data regulations with standardized survey data.
Model fish population dynamics using biological data from selected species.
Strengths
Survey operations were undertaken on 113 stations, providing a substantial spatial sample.
82 different species were caught, indicating a diverse species inventory.
Data collection includes multiple data types: station, catch, length, and biological data.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Freshness should be verified; the last metadata update was 2026-06-11.
