Description
Irish Sea and Bristol Channel fisheries survey data collected from 04/03/1993 to 29/03/1993 by Cefas. The survey recorded station, catch, length, and biological data for 76 species across 141 stations using a 4m beam trawl. Data supports EU regulations and ICES research programs, with additional aims to collect benthic, litter, water quality, and acoustic data.
Use Cases
Calculate abundance indices for groundfish species based on catch and station data.
Analyze species composition and biodiversity across 141 sampling stations.
Model fish population dynamics using length and biological data for selected species.
Correlate environmental factors like water temperature and salinity with species distribution.
Support stock assessments and regulatory reporting for EU data requirements.
Strengths
Survey operations were undertaken on 141 stations, providing spatial coverage.
76 different species were caught on this survey, indicating taxonomic breadth.
Data collection includes multiple data types: station, catch, length, and biological data.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
