Description
Cefas conducted a fisheries survey aboard the RV Corystes from August 15-28, 1990. The dataset contains station, catch, length, and biological data for 63 species collected from 207 stations in the Southern North Sea and Eastern English Channel. It also includes ancillary data on benthic conditions, litter, water temperature, salinity, and acoustic readings.
Use Cases
Assessing species population dynamics based on catch and length data.
Monitoring benthic ecosystem health using collected benthic and litter data.
Analyzing environmental conditions via water temperature and salinity profiles.
Supporting regional fisheries management policy with standardized survey data.
Strengths
Contains data from 207 distinct sampling stations, providing good spatial coverage.
Records catch information for 63 different marine species.
Includes multi-faceted data: biological, environmental (CTD), and acoustic.
Limitations
Column names and the total number of rows are unknown, limiting immediate usability.
Critical metadata like license, author, and precise data size are missing from all sources.
Data is from a single, two-week survey in 1990, limiting temporal scope.
Provenance
Source
Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas)
Collection Method
Scientific survey using a 4m beam trawl, Nansen bottles, and a CTD profiler from the research vessel Corystes.
