Description
24 meditation-naive participants underwent a randomized controlled trial comparing a 10-minute guided mindfulness session to seated rest before performing motor tasks. The study, authored by Merwyn Yu Xian Lee and published on figshare, measured anxiety via heart rates, STAI-State, and VAS-A, and assessed learning via circle tracing tasks and a Parametric Go/No-Go test. Results showed lowered heart rates and VAS-A scores after meditation, with learning effects observed only for the trained hand task.
Use Cases
Analyze the relationship between a single mindfulness session and anxiety reduction based on heart rate and VAS-A scores.
Model the effect of meditation priming on motor skill acquisition for a trained hand task based on accuracy improvements.
Compare cognitive function outcomes between intervention and control groups based on Parametric Go/No-Go test results.
Investigate the transfer of learning effects to untrained hands or novel motor tasks based on the described task conditions.
Strengths
Data originates from a randomized controlled trial design, which suggests a structured experimental approach.
Anxiety was assessed using three distinct measures: heart rates, STAI-State, and VAS-A.
Motor learning was evaluated across three conditions: trained hand, untrained hand, and a novel task with an inverted screen.
Limitations
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
The dataset is very small at 18.1 KB, indicating limited scope.
